 Sutherland's modeling career got underway when she won the annual Bonne Belle model search of Girlfriend, a magazine for teenagers in Australia. Sutherland signed a contract to Vogue Australia after her win. Sutherland has had an extensive runway as well as a television and print modeling career, appearing in advertisements for Bulgari, Ralph Lauren, Garnier, Calvin Klein, Chanel, John Frieda, Kerastase, Hugo Boss and Abercrombie & Fitch. Sutherland has been featured on the covers of Vogue Australia, Harper's Bazaar Singapore and Japan and Elle Germany, Australian Style and Glamour Italy and Black and White. Sutherland has also photographed an extensive editorial for Vogue (Australia, Germany, Greece as well as the U.S.), Elle Australia and U.S.), Marie-Claire UK, Harper's Bazaar Australia, Glamour Italy and Wallpaper* in addition to Elle Australia and Elle Australia. Sutherland has worked with famous fashion photographers, including Herb Ritts, Bruce Weber, Ellen von Unwerth and Steven Meisel. After a five year hiatus the iconic Cadbury TV ads were revived in 2007 and Sutherland was called the Flake Girl. The commercial shows her in reverse, eating an Flake bar in a convertible during a shower. [5] She is one of many Cadbury advertising actors who have voiced their displeasure over Cadbury's sale to foreign owners. After quitting modeling, Sutherland has expressed guilt about having contributed to the "unrealistic standards" of beauty established by fashion and has been critical of the industry's "strict" and harmful size requirements
