 Mendes's first role was in an advertisement for IKEA. 12 Mendes was chosen in 2016 to play Veronica Lodge, a silver-tongued high school sophomore on The TV show CW's Teen drama Riverdale. The subversive version of Archie Comics is a subversive one. Mendes was initially represented by the Carson Kolker Organization. Later, CAA was added to the representation of Mendes. Mendes was included on the cover of December's issue of Women's Health and Cosmopolitan's February 2018 cover. Mendes made her feature film debut in The New Romantic as Morgan. The film premiered at the SXSW Festival in 2018. Mendes was also cast as a character in The Perfect Date, a romantic comedy that starred Laura Marano (with Matt Walsh) the was released in the same month. On April 12, 2019 The film became available on Netflix. 16-year-old Mendes played the role of lead actress in the film of 2019 Coyote Lake. She played the lead role in the critically acclaimed sci-fi/comedy film of 2020, Palm Springs. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. 17 years later, she was the main character in Netflix's thriller, Dangerous Lies.
