Cassandra Peterson [1] was born on 17 September 1951. She is an American actor. Her character as Elvira, Mistresse of the Dark, the hostess of horror is her most well-known. Peterson was famously recognized for her appearance on Los Angeles TV station KHJ-TV as Elvira the stage character she played. She was host of Elvira's Movie Macabre every week, which is a weekly show of B-movies. Peterson is a part of the LA-based sketch comedy and improv troupe The Groundlings. Her Elvira persona was largely inspired by a Valley girl character she developed while a member of. Elvira's Movie Macabre was so popular that Elvira: Mistress of the Dark (1988) and Elvira's Haunted Hills (2001) were created. Peterson starred as Elvira. Elvira hosted films from the public domain and the show was telecast on This TV from 2010 to the year 2011. Elvira returned as a hostess of horror with 13 Nights of Elvira in 2014. The show was a 13-episode show hosted and produced by Hulu. A special 40th Anniversary Special aired on Shudder in 2021. Peterson has been seen in the role of a cameo as Elvira on numerous films and television shows. Peterson was a guest commentator on Wrestlemania 2 and was an official judge on RuPaul's Drag Race, Halloween Wars and RuPaul's Drag Race.
