She is the daughter of Maria Olga Fernandez and Francisco de Pablo Fernandez. [2][3] She is the younger sister of Andrea and Francisco who is a DJ. Maria Olga Fernandez de Pablo's mother was employed by an Spanish-language television network located in Miami, Florida when de Pablo was 10 years old. De Pablo was an student at Arvida Middle School, and New World School of the Arts. She also took classes in musical theatre. She noticed that a lot of people could not pronounce her name, Maria Jose, so she requested that everyone refer to her as "Cote" as it is the most popular Chilean name. 6 De Pablo studied theater and music at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She also was in several plays, like A Little Night Music, The House of Bernarda Alba and Indiscretions. In the year 2000, she earned an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts in Musical Theater.
