Silverman was a performer as well as a writer for Saturday Night Live. She also appeared in and produced The Sarah Silverman Program which ran from 2007 through 2010. She starred in I Smile Back in 2015 and was nominated by Screen Actors Guild for Best Performance by Female actors in Leading Roles. After the 2016 election, she was increasingly politically active. She initially campaigned for Bernie Sanders but later spoke for Hillary Clinton at the 2016 Democratic National Convention. She hosted the Hulu streaming television late-night talk show I Love You, America with Sarah Silverman from 2017 until late 2018. Her comedic roles address controversial and taboo topics that include racism, sexism homophobia, homophobia, politics and religion, often having her comic character endorse them in a humorous or humorous manner.
