Tulsi Gabbard

 ulsi Gabbard (/'t^lsi 'gaeb@rdborn April 12th 1981) is an American politician, United States Army Reserve officer, and political commentator who was the U.S. representative for Hawaii's 2nd congressional district from 2013 until 2021. Gabbard was both the first Hindu Congress member and also the first Samoan-American Congress member to vote. She ran for the Democratic nomination in the 2020 United States presidential election,[2][3] before leaving the Democratic Party and becoming an independent candidate in the month of October in 2022. In 2002, Gabbard was elected to the Hawaii House of Representatives at 21 years old. 4. Gabbard served in a medical field unit that was part of the Hawaii Army National Guard while deployed to Iraq between 2004 and 2005 and was stationed in Kuwait between 2008 and 2009 as an Army Military Police platoon leader. As a member of Congress she was a vice chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) from 2013 until 2016 and then resigned to join Bernie Sanders' campaign for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination.
