 Cristiano Ronaldo da Santos Aveiro, ComM (Portuguese pronunciation: [kriS'tjanu Ro'naldu[kriS'tjanu Ro'naldu]) is a Portuguese professional footballer. He is forward, and is also captain of the Portugal national soccer team. He is currently a free agent. Ronaldo is widely considered to be one of the best players ever. He has won five Ballon d'Or Awards[note 3] as well as four European Golden Shoes. This is the highest number of European player to be awarded these prizes. In his professional career the player has collected 32 awards, including seven league titles as well as five UEFA Champions Leagues. He also was the winner of the UEFA European Championship. Ronaldo holds the record for the most appearances (183) and goals (140) and assists (42) in the Champions League, goals at the European Championship (14), goals in international goals (118) and international appearances by an European (192). Ronaldo is the sole player with more than 1,100 career professional appearances. He also has recorded more than 800 goals in his career for his country or club. He is the sole male athlete who has scored goals in five World Cup tournaments. His professional career in the senior ranks began at Sporting CP at the age of 18, and he joined Manchester United in 2003. In his debut season they was crowned the FA Cup. He went to win three times in a row: the Premier League title, the Champions League, and the FIFA Club World Cup. At the age of 23 he received the first Ballon d'Or. Ronaldo was subject to the most expensive move in the world of association football when he joined in 2009 with Real Madrid. He won 15 awards, including two La Liga titles and two Copa del Reys. He was also the club's top goal-scorer. In 2013, 2014, and 2017 he was awarded back-to-back Ballons d'Or. He was also runners-up in 2016 and 2017 and 2017. He joined Juventus in the year 2018 at EUR100 million (PS88million) that was the highest price for a transfer for an Italian club and for a player over the age of 30. After having won two Serie A titles and two Supercoppa Italiana trophies, he returned to Manchester United in 2021. He was released in 2022.
