Edward Regan Murphy (born April 3 in 1961) is an American actor, comedian, writer, producer, and singer. He became famous on the sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live, for which he was a regular member of the cast from 1980 to 1984. Murphy has also worked as stand-up comedian, and is listed as in the top spot at No. 10 on Comedy Central's list for the 100 Greatest stand-up comedians of All Time. Murphy's performance in the show 48 Hours have been nominated for the Golden Globe Award. He also has won many prizes for his work on the fantasy comedy film Dr. Dolittle (1998) and its 2001 sequel. In 2007, Murphy was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as soul singer James "Thunder" Early in the musical film Dreamgirls. Murphy was voice actor and played roles such as the Chinese dragon Mushu (1998), Thurgood STubbs (2001-2001) and Donkey (2001-2010) in DreamWorks Animations' Shrek series. He is a voice actor in a few films, including his main character. This is a tribute to Peter Sellers. He has appeared in multiple roles in Coming to America (1988), Wes Craven's Vampire in Brooklyn (1995) as well as the Nutty Professor films, Bowfinger (1999), The Adventures of Pluto Nash (2002), Norbit (2007), and Meet Dave (2008). His films have earned him more than $3.8 billion across the United States and Canada, in addition to $6.7 billion worldwide. His films were the sixth highest-grossing actor in the United States in 2015. 6. The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts gave Murphy the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
