Jeanette Helen Morrison (July 6 1927 - 3 October, 2004) was professionally known as Janet Leigh, was an American actress, singer dancer, author, and writer. Her career spans five decades. Raised in Stockton, California, by working-class parents, Leigh was discovered at 18 by actress Norma Shearer, who helped her secure a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.Leigh appeared in radio programs before her first formal foray into acting, making her film debut in the drama The Romance of Rosy Ridge (1947). MGM provided her with a number of parts in films that were a mix of genres. They included the crime-drama Act of Violence (1948) as well as the dramatic Little Women (49), the comedy Angels in the Outfield (51) as well as the romantic Scaramouche (1952) as well as the western drama The Naked Spur (53). In the 1950s, she played dramatic roles in films like Safari (1956), Orson Welles’s noir Touch of Evil (1958) and Scaramouche (1952). She co-starred with Robert Mitchum in Holiday Affair (1949), a romantic comedy. Her most notable success came as Marion Crane, in Alfred Hitchcock's psychological thriller Psycho (1960). Her performance was a huge success. Leigh won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She continued to be a part of movies, including Harper (1966), Night of the Lepus (722) and Boardwalk (1979). In 1975 she made her Broadway debut with Murder Among Friends. She also went on to appear in two horror films with her daughter, Jamie Lee Curtis: The Fog (1980) and Halloween H20 20 Years Later (1998).
