Meyer was born Pauline Joyce Hutchison, south St. Louis, in 1943. Shortly after her birth, her father enlisted in the Army to fight during World War II. In interviews, it was shown that her father began sexually assaulting her once returning. She has discussed the incident in her meetings. She graduated from O'Fallon Technical High School, St. Louis, she married an auto salesman part-time shortly after finishing her final year of high school. The marriage lasted five years. The wife claims that her husband cheated on her a lot and she convinced her husband to steal her employer's checks. The funds were used to pay for an excursion to California. Meyer claims she returned the cash many years later. After her divorce, Meyer frequented local bars before she met Dave Meyer, an engineering draftsman. They were married on January 7, 1967.
