In 1997, Hannigan was cast to be the character Willow Rosenberg, Buffy Summers' best friend, on the tv show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Hannigan's role was a huge hit and she appeared in many films that were targeted at teenagers, such as American Pie (1999), Boys and Girls ((2000), American Pie 2 (2002), and American Wedding (2004). In a couple of episodes, she was also seen as Willow on Angel the Buffy spinoff. The final Buffy episode aired on May 20 the 20th of May, 2003. 11] The Angel episode "Orpheus", in which Hannigan was last seen, aired on March 19th in 2004.
