 Elon Reeve Musk, FRS (/'i:lanor EE-lon) was born on the 28th of June, 1971) is a business magnate and investor. Musk is the CEO, founder and chief engineer of SpaceX and is also the CEO, angel investor, CEO, and product architect at Tesla, Inc., co-founder of The Boring Company, and cofounder of OpenAI and Neuralink. He is also the president of the Musk Foundation, a philanthropic foundation. With an estimated total net worth of $139 billion as of December 23, 2022, mostly due to his ownership stakes in Tesla and SpaceX,[4][5[5] Musk is the second wealthiest person in the world as per both the Bloomberg Billionaires Index and Forbes's real-time billionaires list Musk was born in Pretoria, South Africa, and attended briefly at the University of Pretoria before moving to Canada at the age of 18 acquiring citizenship through his Canadian mother. A few years later, he matriculated at Queen's University and transferred to the University of Pennsylvania, where he received bachelor's degrees in physics and economics. In 1995, he relocated to California to study at Stanford University. He dropped out after just two days. He, along with his brother Kimbal created Zip2, an online software company. Zip2. Compaq bought Zip2 for $307 million in 1999. Musk also co-founded X.com direct bank. X.com merged with Confinity in 2000 to create PayPal, which eBay bought in 2002 for $1.5 billion in 2002.With $175.8 million, Musk founded SpaceX in 2002, a spaceflight services company. He was an investor in Tesla Motors, Inc., the electric vehicle manufacturer (now Tesla, Inc.). In 2008, he was named CEO and was also appointed chairman. In 2006, he helped create SolarCity which was a solar energy company that was later acquired by Tesla and became Tesla Energy. He co-founded OpenAI in 2015, which is an AI research organization that is a nonprofit. He was also the co-founder of Neuralink which develops brain-computer interfacesas well as The Boring Company. Musk has also proposed an ultra-high-speed hyperloop vactrain system. Musk has also suggested a hyperloop high-speed vactrain transportation system. Musk has been criticised for making unscientific and misleading assertions, as well as propagating COVID-19-related misinformation. In the year 2018 the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed a lawsuit against Musk after he falsely claimed he secured funds for a private takeover of Tesla. Musk removed himself as the chairman of Tesla and agreed to pay a $20 million fine as part of an agreement for settlement with the SEC.
