 Venus Ebony Starr Williams[2] (born on 17 June 1980)is an American professional tennis player. World No. Williams was the former world No. 1. She took home seven Grand Slam singles titles at Wimbledon and two at the US Open, and five at Wimbledon. The tennis player is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest players of the sport.Along with her younger sister Serena, Venus Williams was coach by her parents Oracene Price and Richard Williams. In 1994, she became a professional and reached her first major final at the 1997 US Open. Williams won the US Open and Wimbledon titles in 2000 and 2001. She also won the Olympic singles gold at the Sydney Olympics 2000. Williams was ranked the world's number one ranking for the first time February 2002. She reached the singles world No. 1 ranking on February 25 2002. This was her first major achievement in the Open era and second after Althea Gibson. [8] She reached four consecutive major finals between 2002 and 2003, but lost each time to Serena. Then, she suffered injuries and only won one major title between 2003 and 2006. Williams returned to form starting 2007 when she won Wimbledon (a event she repeated in the year following). In 2010, she returned to the world's No. 2 singles ranking, but then suffered again from injuries. Starting in 2014, she again gradually returned to form, culminating in two major finals appearances at the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2017.Along with her seven major singles titles, Williams has also won 14 major women's doubles titles with Serena Williams. They are unbeaten at Grand Slam doubles finals. Williams became the world number. 1 in doubles for the first time on the 7th of June 2010 alongside Serena, after the pair had completed a non-calendar year Grand Slam at the French Open. They also took home three Olympic gold medals for women's doubles in 2000 in 2008, 2000 and 2012. This was in addition to Venus winning gold in singles in 2000, as well as her mixed doubles silver from the year 2016. 10. Williams also took home two major mixed doubles titles both in 1998. Williams sisters are credited with ushering in a new era of strength and athleticism on the professional women's tennis tour.With the 49 WTA Tour singles titles, Williams surpasses only her sister Serena among active players with the most singles titles. with 22 WTA doubles titles and two mixed doubles titles, her total of 73 WTA titles also ranks the second most active player ahead of Serena. Her singles finals in all four majors are her second. She, along SerenaWilliams is the sole active player who has made it to the WTA doubles finals.
